Xstrata to Stop Coal Coking Production in Tahmoor Coal Mine

Tahmoor coal mines are coal mines located in New South Wales, Australia. These coal mines managed by miners and coking coal producer Xstrata Plc. Xstrata mining company temporarily forced to stop production activities Tahmoor coal mine because of the demands of the miners that the company raised the wages of miners.

Wage increase demands of the miners had lasted longer, but both parties agree not find the wage increase in the number of mines. Therefore, on February 8, approximately 380 staff and contractors working on the Tahmoor coal mine refused to work, so the company issued a statement to halt exploration activities in Tahmoor coal mine.

Coking coal production from the Tahmoor mine could reach 2 million per year, so the company will soon consider the demands presented by the mine workers and will submit proposals to the workers.

Xstrata planned salary increase for miners 25% valid for four years and make other changes beyond the basic salary of workers, so that the total increase in wages is estimated at 37%.
