South African Coal Prices Rose On China’s Strong Demand

China’s strong demand of coal has pushed up prices offered by South African suppliers.

As the biggest consumer of coal, China had imported 13mln tons of coal in November 2009, 2.2mln tons more than the same period previous year.

Due to the bad weather, China’s domestic supply of coal was tight recently. An expert from the UK has pointed out that China’s coal increasing prices have stimulated Australian offers to go up and further influenced South Africa Richard Bay offers as a chain reaction and destinations of exported coal are mainly China and India.
